Within the framework of the Cluster of Excellence Engineering of Advanced Materials at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg the materials modeling group of the Institute for General Material Properties is inviting applications for postdocs in the field of atomistic simulations of mechanical properties.  The research projects will focus on the role of interfaces on the plastic deformation and fracture of nanostructured materials.

The successful candidate will hold a PhD degree, preferably in Materials Science, Physics or Mechanical Engineering and have a solid background in physical metallurgy and mechanical behavior of materials. Experience in the simulation of crystal defects on the atomistic or mesoscopic scale and in scientific high performance computing and software development is required. Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to work well in a dynamic and collaborative research environment are essential. The ability to communicate in German is highly desirable but not required.

The Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg is home to Germany’s largest and oldest Materials Science and Engineering Department. It is located in the metropolitan area of Nuremberg (3.5 Mio inhabitants), in the northern part of Bavaria. The Department seeks to increase the number of female research and teaching staff and therefore especially encourages qualified women to apply.
