2 PhD @ SISSA in collaboration with Leonardo SpA and Commisariat à l’Énergie Atomique et aux Énergies Alternatives (CEA)

Two PhD student positions are available in the Theory and Numerical Simulation of Condensed Matter group at the International School for Advanced Studies (SISSA) in Trieste (Italy), to conduct fundamental research in collaboration with Leonardo SpA (Italy) and Commisariat à l’Énergie Atomique et aux Énergies Alternatives (CEA) (France), in the framework of Piano Nazionale di Ripresa e Resilienza (PNRR) - Missione 4 – Componente 2 - Investimento 3.3

The two research projects will focus on

“Hybrid quantum and classical computation workflows for quantum machine learning” in collaboration with Dr. Daniele Dragoni and Dr. Carlo Cavazzoni at Leonardo SpA - Italy

“Development of theoretical and numerical tools to predict capture cross-sections and decay rates in non-radiative phenomena” in collaboration with Dr. Nicolas Richard at Commisariat à l’Énergie Atomique et aux Énergies Alternatives (CEA) - France,  LAAS-CNRS, Toulouse, and IOM-CNR, Trieste.

The projects will be carried out in close collaboration with the industrial partners and will include a minimum 6 month stage in the company, subject to security clearance.

Applicant profile:

The candidates must hold an excellent Master's degree in physics, chemistry, material sciences, or related, and have good English communication and autonomous learning ability skills. The successful candidates will be highly creative, ambitious, and motivated. Strong programming skills and previous knowledge about electronic structure theory and atomistic simulations are an advantage.
