Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

We are pleased to announce the opening of 2 PhD positions in theoretical condensed matter in the Institute of Physics of the Johannes Gutenberg Universität Mainz starting in the Fall of 2014 or later working on spintronics supported by an SFB-SPIN+X. The appointment involves research in the group of Prof. Dr. Jairo Sinova and the newly founded SPIN+X SFB in direct collaboration with the experimental and theoretical research partners in Mainz and in the Technical University Kaiserslautern.

The position incorporates opportunities within SPICE, the newly founded Spin Phenomena Interdisciplinary Center, to lead interdisciplinary research. The Sinova group conducts research in a broad range of topics related to spin phenomena and theoretical condensed matter physics.

A background in theoretical techniques in condensed matter and materials theory is required. Candidates with interest and/or experience in magnetization dynamics, ab-initio calculations, and/or spin-transport physics will be highly suited for this opportunity. Further information can be found on the websites: http://www.uni-kl.de/trr173/home/, http://www.sinova-group.physik.uni-mainz.de/ and http://www.spice.uni-mainz.de/. The prospective group member must hold a MSc or equivalent diploma.

Johannes Gutenberg Univeristät Mainz is an equal opportunity, affirmative actions employer in compliance with German disability laws. Women and persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply.

Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. Interested applicants should send a curriculum vitae, a list of publications, and at least two letters of recommendation to [email protected]. When sending applications please refer to in the subject line “SPIN+X PhD position application”.
