Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to announce a molecular dynamics image contest focused on the topic of “Micro-choreography”.

Images will be published within Interalia, an online magazine dedicated to exploring fusions between the frontiers of arts and science, and edited by Richard Bright.

The aim of the “Micro-choreography” issue is to highlight examples where aesthetic practice draws inspiration from the molecular sciences and ways in which science uses aesthetics to create representations of nature which are invisible to our eyes - namely, within the dynamical realm of molecules, atoms, and electrons.

We are particularly interested in how to capture dynamical molecular and microscopic processes. Capturing dynamical phenomena in static images is a notorious challenge. This is a form we have started playing with, drawing inspiration from the works of artists and scientists like Prof. Eric Heller (Harvard University) who has consistently experimented with the possibilities of dynamical representation in microscopic domains

We are therefore opening a call for images that aesthetically represent the dynamics of microscopic & molecular processes. A selection of the best images (assessed in terms of their aesthetic impact and scientific content) will be published in Interalia. All contributors will receive a life subscription to Interalia.

A range of well known scientists and artists, including Prof. Eric Heller, have agreed to contribute images to this issue, and also to help decide on the images chosen for inclusion in the gallery.

The image submission is open until March 31, 2016. Please feel free to pass this message onto anybody that you think may be interested.
