Description: 

This Special Issue is intended to collect the most recent developments in the rapidly evolving area of computational simulations (e.g., first principles electronic structure theory, molecular dynamics methods, atomistic simulations and mesoscale modeling), multiscale modeling methods, and materials informatics-based approaches for the design and optimization of functional materials. A particular focus of this Special Issue is to showcase state-of-the-art methods, techniques and frameworks as they apply to materials research in diverse thematic areas, including structural, electronic, optoelectronic, magnetic, nuclear, ferroelectric & multiferroics materials, catalysis & surface science, polymeric & soft materials as well as materials for energy harvesting, storage and transport, and materials design related challenges.

Submission Information & Guidelines

To be considered for this Special Issue, manuscripts must be submitted online between September 1, 2021 and November 30, 2021 using the Editorial Manager system (https://www.editorialmanager.com/jmsc/). Contributors to the Special Issue are asked to note the following when preparing and submitting their manuscripts:

  • All submissions must be prepared following the instructions for authors on the Springer website: http://www.springer.com/materials/journal/10853
  • All submissions will be subject both to the normal peer review procedures and to evaluation by the Guest and Coordinating Editors. The evaluation process will also begin on September 1, 2021. 
  • All reviewing will be completed by 31 March 2022 and the issue will be published shortly thereafter. 
  • Beginning in 2022, the Journal of Materials Science will be published weekly (48 issues per year)
  • All Regular papers are eligible for the Cahn Prize; all Review papers are eligible for the Bonfield Prize
