Dear colleagues,

We invite you to join us at the "Young Researcher's Workshop on Machine Learning for Materials Science" at Aalto University (Helsinki, Finland). We will bring together young researchers, experts from computer science and applied mathematics, and renowned scientists in the field of chemistry and physics for discussions about the present and the future of applying machine learning (ML) methods in material science (MS). The workshop features:

- a two-day ML school, including an in-depth theoretical introduction to the field by invited speakers (G.Csányi, L. Ghiringhelli, N. Artrith, M. Ceriotti) and hands-on computing sessions.

- additional invited talks on the latest ML method developments in computers science, state-of-the-art applications of ML algorithms in MS, and applications of ML in the industry and IT sectors.

- extended discussion sessions with all participants to facilitate cross-disciplinary knowledge transfer and pursue novel solutions in the research field.

The event is free of charge to registered participants thanks to generous support from CECAM, Psi-K and Aalto University. Invited speakers include:

Dr. Nongnuch Artrith, Columbia University, United States

Prof. Gábor Csányi, University of Cambridge, United Kingdom

Prof. Michele Ceriotti, Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, Switzerland

Dr. Luca Ghiringhelli, Fritz Haber Institute, Germany

Prof. Rafael Gomez-Bombarelli, MIT, United States

Dr. Thomas Hammerschmidt, Ruhr-Universität Bochum, Germany

Prof. Karsten Wedel Jacobsen, Technical University of Denmark, Denmark

Prof. Teemu Roos, University of Helsinki, Finland

Prof. Volker Roth, University of Basel, Switzerland

Prof. Ole Winther, Technical University of Denmark, Denmark

We welcome your oral and poster contributions at our website https://ml4ms2019.aalto.fi/. The abstract and registration deadline is 10 March 2019. A preliminary programme is available online, as well as the workshop flyer (attached): please feel free to print a copy and display in your institutions or forward to anyone that may be interested.

We look forward to seeing you in Helsinki!
