Abstract deadline: 16 March 2018
Registration deadline: 23 March 2018
Dear Colleagues,
We would like to announce the workshop on "Emerging Technologies in Scientific Data Visualization" that will be held in Pisa, Italy during 4-6 April 218. In this concentrated gathering, we will explore the subject of visualization from various perspectives with key speakers who are expert data producers, users, analysts, creators of atomistic and non-atomistic visualization tools and human-centered visualization designers.
We plan this gathering to be a learning opportunity and brainstorming session where we can deepen our knowledge of current technologies in scientific visualization and ask how we can take advantage of them in our research. Some key questions we will address include but are not limited to:
*** What are the emerging visualization needs for Big Data? How are they different than scaled-up versions of existing tools? How can visualization aid data-driven methods such as machine learning?
*** How to enhance current data analysis tools or create new ones with visualization? What visual analytics techniques, representations and mapping methods can we borrow from other fields, now that the molecular simulations can produce a variety of data other than molecular representations?
*** How can we better use the developing technologies such as Virtual Reality, haptic feedback mechanisms, graphical artificial neural networks, and computer vision to reveal patterns and relationships that were previously not exposed to visualization at all? How can computational material science benefit from technologies that target interaction with data?
We welcome your oral, poster or computational demonstration contributions that highlight the visualization challenges or solutions in your research field. We plan to host demos with several standard VR headsets and CAVE, please contact us for non-standard hardware requirements. For contributions, please submit an abstract by 16 March 2018.
The workshop is free of charge thanks to generous contributions of CECAM and Psi-K for the first 30 participants registered until 23 March 2018. With the aim of contributing to inclusivity in science, free accommodation will be provided for three participants from underrepresented groups in STEM.
Please feel free to forward this to anyone that may be interested.
Looking forward to seeing you in Pisa,
The Organizers
