Announcements of conferences, workshops, schools…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

The general deadline (February 5th, 2024) is approaching for the registration of applicants for the 27th WIEN2k workshop supported by the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) and the Psi-k. The workshop will be held at ICTP (Trieste, Italy) from April 8th to April 19th, 2024. The participation format will be "in-person" only. The program will have a balance of lectures with illustrative examples and hands-on sessions. We plan to cover a range of topics from basic functionality to advanced developments: density functional theory, band structure, magnetism, relativistic effects, phonons, charge transport, spectroscopy (optics, XANES, EELS, XPS), NMR, Mössbauer, Wannier functions, Berry phase, mapping Berry curvature, topological materials, surfaces. There will be a possibility to showcase your research by presenting a poster.

We anticipate hosting about 50 participants. The emphasis is placed on making the workshop accessible by eliminating the registration fee for all participants. A limited number of grants are available to support the attendance of selected participants, with priority given to participants from developing countries. (The application deadline for attendees seeking financial support is closed.) All participants from developing countries will receive a free (!) WIEN2k license.

Registration applications (for those who do not require financial support and Visa) are now being accepted through the ICTP portal. We will continue to receive general applications until February 5th, 2024.

We are looking forward to welcoming you in Trieste.

Yours organizing committee (Peter Blaha, Oleg Rubel, and Nicola Seriani)
