Telluride School on Stochastic Approaches to Ele ... (No replies)
Back to Event listings...
TSRC is home to the Telluride School on Stochastic Approaches to Electronic Structure Calculations. Founded and led by Ken Jordan of the University of Pittsburgh, Miguel Morales of Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Luke Shulenburger of Sandia National Laboratory, and Lucas Wagner of the University of Illinois, the school will be held for the first time in 2017, July 11-15.
Students must apply and be accepted. Please keep an eye on our website for details on the next school.
School Description
This summer school, aimed at graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, addresses the use of stochastic methods of treating electronic structure of complex materials. Both methods that operate in position space as well as those where the sampling is done in configuration space will be considered.
The format will include lectures followed by practical exercises (in the Python language), which will help the students understand how the key algorithms work.
The school will host ~20 students (graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and more senior researchers) who are interested in learning about stochastic electronic structure methods. Approximately ~10 lecturers/facilitators (i.e., the individuals who will present lectures as well as those would assist in the exercises) will present at the school.
APPLYING: The "Application Window" for the school opens on October 15, 2016 and talented graduate students and post-docs interested should apply by February 1, 2017. After filling out this application, no further registration is required until accepted applicants receive registration instructions on February 25th.
Your application and registration are two different processes. If you are accepted, you then register at https://www.telluridescience.org/for-scientists/for-participants/register to prepay for registration and lodging. Registration for accepted applicants must be completed by March 3, 2017. We have raised funds that allow us to cover most of the registration fee. You will need to pay only a $90 registration fee. We also expect to be able to reimburse participants for up to $250 for travel. Successful applicants will be informed of the procedure for partial reimbursement for travel in the acceptance letter. Keep in mind that the registration and lodging fees will not be refunded or reimbursed if you cancel your participation after March 31, 2017.
The school organizers hope that some of the students will stay on an extra week to attend the workshop as well. Most of the lecturers/facilitators would attend both events.
