Summer school and workshop on quantum Monte Carl ... (No replies)
Back to Event listings...
We would like to remind you about two upcoming events, a summer school and a workshop, focused on quantum Monte Carlo (QMC) methods, and dedicated to Prof. Sandro Sorella, who gave a tremendous contribution to their developments.
Both events are organized in Trieste in July 2023.
The "TREX School on quantum Monte Carlo methods with the TurboRVB code" will be held at SISSA from July 3rd to July 7th. The school will be an excellent opportunity to learn about QMC through the use of TurboRVB, the ab initio QMC code whose development has been one of Sandro Sorella's major undertakings. The school will introduce the basic notions of Monte Carlo sampling, error analysis, variational and diffusion QMC, wave function optimization, followed by hands-on sessions with TurboRVB, with electronic structure applications. The registration deadline for the school is May 25th. Free lodging is provided during the week of the school on a first-come first-served basis. Some places are still available. More information about the school can be found at the official web page: https://trex-coe.eu/events/trex-school-qmc-turborvb-2023
The "Workshop on Quantum Monte Carlo Methods at Work for Describing Novel States of Matter" which will take place at the ICTP from July 10th to July 14th. The workshop will cover topics such as the most recent methodological developments, neural-network approaches, magnetism and superconductivity, low-dimensional fermionic and bosonic models, emergent exotic phases in strongly-correlated systems. During the workshop, we plan to dedicate some sessions to Prof. Sandro Sorella in honor of his significant scientific impact. The registration deadline for the workshop is May 7th. You can find more details about it at the workshop web page: https://indico.ictp.it/event/10187
The occurrence of both events over two consecutive weeks is a unique opportunity to learn the basic concepts of QMC and see its cutting-edge applications in condensed matter physics. For those interested in attending both events, note that a separate registration is needed. For those coming from developing countries, the ICTP can provide a limited number of grants covering the travel expenses and providing free lodging during the week of the ICTP workshop.
Hope to see you in Trieste,
Federico Becca, Michele Casula, Kosuke Nakano, and Sandro Scandolo
