Engage in the development of the next disruptive innovation in magnetic memory technology! Join us as a micromagnetic modelling expert!

What you will do

  • In this position, you will be part of the device team with a mandate to contribute to the development of new device concepts within the scope of magnetic memory technology.
  • You will be in charge of extensively modelling and simulating different MRAM device flavours (STT-MRAM, SOT-MRAM and VCMA-MRAM) to understand and address the main challenges today, such as reduction of switching energies, reliability issues at operating conditions, scalability, and others key challenges.
  • You will interact and collaborate with team members (thin film, patterning, and devices) to gain fundamental understanding on the impact of materials and processes on device performance through standard micromagnetic software such as OOMMF and Mumax, and additional programming tools (Python, Matlab, or C)
  • You will be involved in innovation activities to develop the next generation, best-in-class magnetic memory device for a variety of applications.

What we do for you

We offer you the opportunity to join one of the world’s premier research centers in nanotechnology at its headquarters in Leuven, Belgium. With your talent, passion and expertise, you’ll become part of a team that makes the impossible possible. Together, we shape the technology that will determine the society of tomorrow.
We are proud of our open, multicultural, and informal working environment with ample possibilities to take initiative and show responsibility. We commit to supporting and guiding you in this process; not only with words but also with tangible actions. Through imec.academy, 'our corporate university', we actively invest in your development to further your technical and personal growth.
We are aware that your valuable contribution makes imec a top player in its field. Your energy and commitment are therefore appreciated by means of a competitive salary with many fringe benefits.

Who you are

  • You have a PhD in one of the following areas – Electrical engineering, physics or material sciences, and an in-depth working knowledge/expertise of magnetism in bulk and ultrathin multilayer films.
  • You have a demonstrated expertise in micromagnetic simulation software such as OOMMF or Mumax, and have published literature on your past simulation activities.
  • You are also adept at standard programming such as Python, MATLAB or C for data post-processing and analysis. A knowledge of Python would be preferable together with Unix/Linux environments
  • You can effectively analyse generated datasets, present reasonable hypotheses that will utilize your knowledge in magnetism. Presenting results to the team will be a key aspect of the job.
  • You are an effective and fluent communicator in English, and an enthusiastic team player who likes to collaborate. You are also open to constructive criticism and feedback for improvements.
  • Knowledge of other simulation tools such as COMSOL can be a positive addition, but not mandatory.

This postdoctoral position is funded by imec through KU Leuven. Because of the specific financing statute which targets international mobility for postdocs, only candidates who did not stay or work/study in Belgium for more than 24 months in the past 3 years can be considered for the position (short stays such as holiday, participation in conferences, etc. are not taken into account).
