Dear colleagues,

We are delighted to announce that the Microsymposium "Quasicrystals and approximants: structure and properties" is now open for registration. It will take place within the 30th European Crystallography Meeting, ECM-30, in Basel, Switzerland, 28 Aug.-1 Sept. 2016 - http://ecm30.ecanews.org/ecm2016/home.html

Quasicrystals and approximants share similar local atomic configurations on the nanometer scale but approximants recover the translational periodicity at a larger scale. The exotic atomic structure of this new class of materials is responsible to a host of unusual physical properties - at least when judged against their chemical composition. The MS will focus on the latest research on theoretical and methodological advances, including experimental methods (diffraction, etc), theoretical approaches and numerical calculations, for structural determinations, disorder and defect studies and analysis of the related physical and functional properties.

Within this symposium, invited lectures will be given by:

Ryuji Tamura, Tokyo University of Science, Japan

Julia Dshemuchadse, University of Michigan, USA

We are looking forward for your participation.

Sincerely yours,

Émilie Gaudry and Cesar Pay Gomez
