Dear Psi-k members,

Can you please forward this message to potentially interested students (masters and early PhD)?

We are pleased to announce that registration has opened for the Hermes 2020 Summer schoool! You can sign up and pay for your place here.

Due to a miscommunication, an incorrect registration form was sent to some institutions. Please disregard this registration form.

Registration and will be done on a first come, first serve basis through the official link above on the University of Cambridge online store, and payment must be done at the time of registration. We advise that interested students sign up early to avoid disappointment, as there are a limited number of places. We are working on increasing the number of places, and anyone that signs up after the places are filled will be placed on a waiting list.

If you have any problems with the link, please get in touch ([email protected]), or visit our website. A reminder that if you would like to be considered for a scholarship for students from developing countries, please email us your applications and CVs by 13th March 2020.

A quick overview of the Hermes Summer school: Hermes serves as a broad introduction for masters and early PhD students to the main areas of computational physics and materials science as well as effective communication skills, and is also a great opportunity to meet and network with other research students working in similar fields. The school will take place from 24th-28th July 2020 in the Cumberland Lodge, a beautiful and unique conference venue, historically known for encouraging stimulating discussions. The school consists of an introduction to three of the biggest areas in computational physics and materials science:
  • density functional theory
  • molecular dynamics
  • machine learning
There will be research based lectures as well as hands-on practical sessions from leading academics on each of the three subjects. The academic sessions will be supplemented by an excellent program of science communication workshops.

The school fee is £375 for early bird registration and £475 for late registration. This fee covers all food and accommodation for the duration of the Summer school (4 nights).

- Prof. Gabor Csanyi, University of Cambridge
