As in previous years, we would like to encourage all Psi-k members to attend the annual "Spring Meeting" of the German Physical Society, held in in Regensburg, March 6-11 2016.

With more than 7.000 expected participants this is by far the largest European physics conference, covering all aspects of condensed-matter and materials physics, including surface science, magnetism, soft and biological matter, and more. The conference language is English.

This year’s meeting will feature a symposium of special interest to the Psi-k community:

Frontiers of Electronic Structure Theory: Focus on Topology and Transport

While the invited lectures will have a focus on topology and transport, the symposium will cover the general field of computational materials and electronic structure theory. Everybody in the Psi-k community is invited to attend the symposium and to submit an abstract, either for a contributed talk or a poster.

Invited speakers are:

  •   Stefan Blügel (Forschungszentrum Jülich, Germany)
  •   Ewelina Hankiewicz (Universität Würzburg, Germany)
  •  Jürgen Henk (Martin-Luther-Universität Halle, Germany)
  •  Jelena Klinovaja (Universität Basel, Switzerland)
  •  Allan MacDonald (The University of Texas at Austin, USA)
  •  Shuichi Murakami (Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan)
  •  Jairo Sinova (Johannes Gutenberg Universität Mainz, Germany and Texas A&M University, USA)
  •  Ivo Souza (Universidad del País Vasco, Spain)
  •  Binghai Yan (Max-Planck-Institut für Chemische Physik fester Stoffe, Dresden, Germany)
  • Find more information here: http://th.fhi-berlin.mpg.de/meetings/DPGSym2016/.

Due to the large size of the meeting, early registration and accommodation reservation is strongly encouraged. The deadline for abstract submission is December 1, 2015. The website for abstract submission for the DPG Spring Meeting is: http://regensburg16.dpg-tagungen.de/programm/abstract.html. To submit an abstract for this symposium, choose “O: Surface science division”, and later, as topic: “Focus Session: Frontiers of Electronic Structure Theory - Focus on Topology and Transport”.

    Best regards,

    Hanna Krauter
On behalf of the organizers of the symposium

Ingrid Mertig, Giovanni Vignale, and Matthias Scheffler
