MSE 2022/Symposium M08: Materials Acceleration Platforms for future materials design
Date: 27.09.2022 - 29.09.2022
City: Darmstadt & Online
Country: Germany
Organisers: German Materials Society (DGM)
Venue: Technical University of Darmstadt
The German Materials Society (DGM) flagship event – the Materials Science and Engineering Congress (MSE) – will be held as Hybrid Congress from 27 to 29 September 2022. With typically more than 1,500 participants, the biannual MSE is one of the largest English-speaking congresses in the field of Material Science and Engineering across Europe. Over the past decade, MSE has become an international platform for materials science and engineering experts to present their research to a large international community and network across borders.

In the frame of Topic M “Modelling and Simulation” of this MSE event we are organizing the Symposium
M08: Materials Acceleration Platforms for future materials design
To cope with the ever-growing needs for high-performance materials, a strong ongoing trend exists worldwide towards installation of material development and processing platforms termed materials acceleration platforms (MAPs). A common element of these initiatives is the transition from stand-alone simulation or characterization tools towards integrated environments combining databases, physical modeling, inverse design, machine learning and experimental testing in a common framework [1,2]. A core prerequisite for these platforms is the integrated computational materials engineering for the linking of multiple scales and models to establish process-microstructure-property relationships. Such platforms are expected to meet the future challenges related to materials design and to significantly accelerate development processes. A necessary requirement of such interactions between data is the interoperability ensured via data standards and compliance with FAIR data principles. The scope of this symposium is to discuss the relevant interactions between simulations and experimental techniques, the overarching machine learning driven approaches for future materials design as well as the underlying integrated computational materials engineering approach.

In this symposium we call for an open discussion on newest method developments for Integrated Computational Materials Engineering (ICME) approaches and materials design. These are the key tools for future Materials Acceleration Platforms (MAPs) that link modelling, characterization, and materials data bases for data driven materials design.
We are looking forward to welcoming you to MSE 2022!
