On March 7-9, 2019 Brown University will host its inaugural Molecular and Quantum Computing Symposium. The aim of the Molecular and Quantum Computing Symposium will be to convene the New England scientific community to discuss advances in and prospects for quantum and molecular computation. The symposium will consist of thematic sessions, each consisting of a keynote presentation, contributed talks, break-out sessions, and a wrap-up discussion. We anticipate attendance of over 100 area researchers and a select group of interested companies. Students are encouraged to attend.
Preceding the symposium on Thursday afternoon at 3:30 p.m., we will hold the 2019 John Howard Appleton Lecture, in MacMillan Hall, featuring Isaac Chuang, Ph.D., Departments of Physics and Electrical Engineering, Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The symposium will officially begin on Friday at 2:00 p.m. in MacMillan Hall, continuing through all-day Saturday in the Barus and Holley building. Confirmed speakers/panelists include:
Jehoshua Bruck (CalTech)
Steven Girvin (Yale)
Robert Schoelkopf (Yale)
David Schuster (UChicago)
Christof Teuscher (Portland State)
The Appleton Lecture will culminate in a faculty dinner on Thursday evening at the Hope Club (http://www.hopeclub.com/). Come meet the speakers on Friday night at the Brown Faculty Club (registration and payment are required for off-campus, non-keynote attendees). A complimentary breakfast will be served on both days as well as a brown bag lunch on Saturday (a vegetarian lunch option will be available).
The symposium is organized by the Brown Department of Chemistry, Department of Physics, the School of Engineering, and the Office for the Vice President for Research at Brown University. The symposium committee consists of the following Brown University faculty: Brad Marston (Physics), Vesna Mitrovic (Physics), Jacob Rosenstein (Engineering), and Brenda Rubenstein (Chemistry)
