Announcements of conferences, workshops, schools…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

We are hereby indicating the approaching registration deadline for the international workshop "Ab initio Description of Iron and Steel (ADIS2023): Digitalization and Workflows" taking place 29 Oct - 03 Nov, 2023, at Ringberg castle (Tegernsee, Germany).

Scope: While the title is due to a longer tradition of workshops in the field, the current workshop has a broader scope. We are aiming at chemically complex materials, to which steels belong, but also high-entropy alloys and many more materials. The focus on "digitalization and workflows" reflects the fact that any design strategy for complex alloys requires a combined multi-disciplinary effort, an efficient data management and/or advanced machine-learning methods. A wide array of approaches and algorithms needs to be developed, implemented and evaluated with respect to predictive power. In this context we also want to discuss the recent developments in the fields of data mining, machine learning, and artificial intelligence for the identification of structure-composition-property relationships in the high-dimensional materials data space.

Programme: The programme will consist of tutorial like lectures, contributed talks and hands-on sessions related to the presented topics. Poster contributions are also welcome.

Registration: We encourage Ph. D. students, post-docs, young and senior scientists working on ab initio based materials design and/or scientific workflows to contribute to the discussions and to present their own research. The participation is in-person only and strictly limited to 55 scientists to be accommodated at Ringberg castle. Please register by sending an email and possibly your abstract to [email protected]. The deadline ist October 15, 2023.

Costs: A conference fee will solely be used to cover the prices for lodging and all meals at Ringberg castle. The funding by Psi-k allows us to reduce these costs per participant.

We look forward to meeting you at the workshop
