Dear friends,

this is the second announcement for the 652th Heraeus workshop “ab-initio Electronic Structure Theory for Solids in the 21st Century”, which will take place in the Physikzentrum Bad Honnef, Germany, from the 30th of October to the 3rd of November 2017.  The workshop is funded by the Wilhelm and Else Heraeus Foundation and is co-organized by Lilia Boeri, Igor Mazin, Tanusri Saha-Dasgupta and Roser Valenti. The deadline for application is the 25th of August.

The workshop will present the most recent developments and the open challenges in ab initio electronic structure theory with a particular focus on methods that can guide or drive new material discovery and selected applications. The workshop comprises invited talks from prominent and junior researchers of the field, a poster session with flash presentation and a round-table session to encourage discussion among all participants. 

The Heraeus foundation explicitly encourages participation of early-state researchers and will cover lodging and boarding costs for them. More information on the workshop, including the full list of speakers and information on the application procedure can be found on the conference web site:
