It is our pleasure to announce the 27th WIEN2k workshop supported by the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP). The workshop will be held at ICTP (Trieste, Italy) from 08 April to 19 April 2024. The participation format will be “in-person” only. The program will have a balance of lectures with illustrative examples and hands-on sessions. We plan to cover a range of topics from basic functionality to advanced developments: density functional theory, band structure, magnetism, relativistic effects, phonons, charge transport, spectroscopy (optics, XANES, EELS, XPS), NMR, Mössbauer, Wannier functions, Berry phase, mapping Berry curvature, topological materials, surfaces. There will be a possibility to showcase your research by presenting a poster.

We anticipate hosting about 50 participants. The emphasis is placed on making the workshop accessible by eliminating the registration fee for all participants. A limited number of grants are available to support the attendance of selected participants, with priority given to participants from developing countries. All participants from developing countries will receive a free (!) WIEN2k license. Registration applications will be accepted through the ICTP portal (details will follow in the second announcement). We expect to finalize review of applications and send invitation letters by early December 2023.

We are looking forward to welcoming you in Trieste.

Subject: Request for Participation in Wien2k Code Workshop

Dear Peter Blaha

I am writing to express my keen interest in participating in the upcoming Wien2k Code Workshop. The primary aim of my participation is to deepen my knowledge and proficiency in calculating the magnetic, optical, and thermoelectric properties of specific compounds using this software. Additionally, I am eager to collaborate with fellow researchers who are exploring novel families of magnetic materials.

I firmly believe that this workshop offers an excellent opportunity to enhance my expertise in computational materials science and contribute to the advancement of our understanding of magnetic materials.

I work extensively with new familly of half-metallic materials and am particularly interested in obtaining assistance with the calculation of their physical properties, their interpretation, and the subsequent publication of our findings. .

kindly request your assistance in securing a spot at the workshop and any necessary information regarding registration, schedules, and requirements. I am committed to actively participating in all workshop activities and contributing to the collective learning experience.

I am more than willing to invest the time and effort required to make the most of this opportunity.

Thank you for considering my request, and I look forward to your positive response. Your guidance and support will be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Dr. Abdennour Benmakhlouf
