Dear colleagues,

We are organizing a Hands-On course in Göttingen, Germany from September 14-18, 2015 on

"Hands-on course on ab-initio calculations"

The 2015 CP-PAW hands-on course on first principles calculations is a one-week course organized jointly by the Institute for Theoretical Physics of Clausthal University of Technology and the Institute for Materials Physics of the Georg-August University, Göttingen.

The purpose of this block-course is to introduce international students to the state-of-the-art of modern ab-initio calculations in the context of density functional theory. The course provides the theoretical background on methods and materials as well as a hands-on practical course on the CP-PAW code. The course targets physicists and chemists during their masters studies and doctoral students. After finishing the course, the students will be able to independently develop and carry out ab-initio calculations as well as to analyze and judge their results.

Application deadline: August 4th, 2015 (next Tuesday!).

(We will also consider applications after this deadline, if we still have places available.)

More details about the Hands-On course, including information on how to apply can be found from the homepage at:

The number of participants is limited. Please provide a brief description of your background and your motivation for the course.

If you have any questions, please contact us (e.g. Robert Schade, email: [email protected]).

Best regards,

Peter Blöchl (Clausthal University of Technology, Germany, email: [email protected])
