A postdoctoral position is to be filled in the group of Professor Richard Dronskowski at RWTH Aachen University, Germany, in close collaboration with the Hoffmann Institute of Advanced Materials (HIAM) belonging to Shenzhen Polytechnic University, Shenzhen, China.

The position is initially for two years with possible renewal contingent on funding availability and based on the scientific performance. The postdoc will work in the group of Professor Dronskowski at RWTH Aachen University but the position is funded and supported by HIAM and Shenzhen Polytechnic University (SZPU). The fellow will have a primary affiliation with SZPU. Generous salary and additional support, including support for round-trip travel from China to Germany, will be provided. At the moment payment will be in Chinese currency (RMB). The position is available in March 2024.

Among the research areas, we focus on the quantum chemistry of solids, chemical bonding, finite-temperature phenomena, phase prediction, materials simulations, and machine learning. A PhD degree in chemistry or physics is needed, with a strong background in quantum or theoretical chemistry. Also, good programming skills would be welcome, together with strong oral and written English skills. Also, the postdoc must have Chinese nationality and have a demonstrated track record of accomplishments, through publications of at least three first-authored publications in major peer-reviewed international journals.

HIAM, which is named after the Nobel Laureate Roald Hoffmann at Cornell, USA, is an established institute at Shenzhen Polytechnic University in Shenzhen, China, fostering advanced research spanning a variety of materials and their applications in collaboration with Professor Dronskowski and several other renowned researchers from around the world. A possible permanent position for the postdoc may become available at HIAM later on, depending on the performance during his/her research and availability of positions at HIAM.
