Organization Description:

The IBS Center for Multidimensional Carbon Materials is located in a new building at the Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST), nestled in a beautiful area near the port cities of Ulsan and Busan. The center supports a talented international team of highly collaborative researchers that design, synthesize and study new forms of carbon and related materials, many of which are expected to have exceptional physical and electronic properties.

Job Description:

Successful candidates will work under the supervision of distinguished Prof. Feng Ding, the work will be involved in simulations focusing on the following fields:

  1. Multi-scale computational methods development for materials science, including global structure searching and/or transition state searching, classical and semi-empirical potential energy surfaces, kinetic Monte Carlo algorithms, coarse grained algorithms, phase field theory, etc.
  2. Application of machine learning in materials science, including the development of artificial neural network (ANN) potentials and material prediction by machine learning, etc.
  • The growth mechanism of low dimensional materials at atomic level and multi-scales, including (i) the formation mechanism of fullerenes from gas phases; (ii) the mechanisms of carbon nanotube (CNT) growth and the potential routes towards chirality selection during CNTs synthesis; (iii) the mechanism of chemical vapor deposition (CVD) growth of graphene and other 2D materials; (iv) the mechanism of diamond CVD growth, (iv) the mechanism of nanowire’s CVD and self-catalyzed CVD growth, etc.
  1. The structural defects, mechanical, thermal, electronic properties of CNTs, graphene and other 2D materials.
