A full-time (40 hours/week), two-year term position as a Postdoctoral Fellow is available at the Physics Department of the Pisa University in the field of theoretical condensed matter physics.

Under the guidance of Michele Virgilio, the selected candidate will work in the context of the EU-FET project FLASH aimed at the demonstration of a Germanium based intersubband quantum cascade laser.

In particular, he/she will develop numerical models to describe the intersubband dynamics in SiGe complex heterostructures.

The selected candidate will work in close collaboration with the other research units participating in the project in order to compare the theoretical predictions against experimental data obtained mainly by means of CW and time resolved pump-probe spectroscopy in the THZ domain.

Consequently, this post-doctoral fellow position offers the opportunity for the applicant to spend a visiting period at one of the other institutions participating in the project (University of Glasgow, ETH Zurich, NextNano, IHP Leibniz Institute).

The successful candidate has:

  • Doctoral degree in Physics or a related field
  • Strong background in theoretical condensed matter physics and a well-established track of record
  • Experience in relevant areas of laser and low dimension semiconductor physics
  • Excellent programming skills in C++ or Fortran 90
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team

Interested candidates should send a CV including a brief description of past research experience, and two reference letters to Michele Virgilio ([email protected]).

Review of applications will begin in October, and will continue until the position is filled.
