Postdoc position – materials with complex orders

Italian Institute of Technology (Genova, Italy) invites applications for a postdoc position in the Quantum Materials Theory Group led by Sergey Artyukhin. Our research combines analytical (model Hamiltonians, low-energy effective models) and numerical methods (DFT, DMFT, Monte-Carlo) in an effort to understand and manipulate complex spin, orbital and structural orders. Particular interests include: correlated insulators, non-collinear magnetic phases, elementary excitations and dynamics; ferroelectrics, multiferroics and other functional materials, structure and dynamics of domain walls; ultrafast phenomena and electron-phonon coupling. We closely collaborate with experimental groups working on novel bulk materials and nanoparticles. The successful candidate will pursue his/her research, collaborate with other group members, participate in  joint projects with experimental groups, contribute to journal club seminars, present the work at conferences, prepare publications. There are also opportunities to contribute to teaching.

Requirements: excellent knowledge of theoretical or computational condensed matter physics,  familiarity with Mathematica software or ab-initio codes (abinit, QE, elk), programming languages. A PhD degree is required.

The position is initially for 2 years and may be extended further upon mutual agreement. Salary and benefits are in line with international standards.
