We are delighted to announce that Hermes 2020 Summer school ( hermessummerschool.org/ ) will take place from 24th - 28th July 2020 in the Cumberland Lodge, Windsor, United Kingdom. Hermes is a biennial Summer school which began in 2012 in the Theory of Simulation of Materials (TSM) CDT at Imperial College London. This year the management has moved to the Computational Methods for Materials Science CDT at the University of Cambridge.

It serves as a broad introduction for masters and early PhD students to the main areas of computational physics and materials science as well as effective communication skills, and is also a great opportunity to meet and network with other research students working in similar fields. The Cumberland Lodge is a beautiful and unique conference venue, historically known for encouraging stimulating discussions.

The school consists of an introduction to three of the biggest areas in computational physics and materials science: density functional theory, molecular dynamics and machine learning. There will be research based lectures as well as hands-on practical sessions from leading academics on each of the three subjects. The academic sessions will be supplemented by an excellent program of science communication workshops. We will have talks on publishing from a senior editors at Nature and APS, and workshops on scientific communication and presenting research effectively, to name a few. Registration will open in January. The school fee will be £375 for early bird registration and £475 for late registration. This fee covers all food and accommodation for the duration of the Summer school (4 nights).
