Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of the organizing committee, we would like to invite you to submit abstracts to the symposium titled “Machine Learning and Data Science in Materials Modeling, Imaging and Applications” for the 2018 International Materials Research Society Meeting, which will be held in Cancun, Mexico from August 19-24, 2018.

A brief description of our symposium is below:
-------------
The advent of big data analytics in the computing science community along with the reduction in computing and memory costs over the last few years have brought powerful machine learning techniques to the forefront; such methods are now routinely used in business, transactional, and social media applications. These machine learning methods hold tremendous promise to advance various facets of nanoscale materials research, particularly via successfully combining them with first-principles physics, atomistic simulations, and experimental characterization. This symposium aims to facilitate and strengthen the synergistic approach to experimental and theoretical works of experts academia, national labs, and industries. Researchers will discuss the latest developments in machine learning tools and techniques to enable accelerated discovery, characterization and design of hybrid materials and novel device architectures for a range of different emerging energy applications and technologies.
Several strong research programs developing and applying novel machine learning algorithms focused on fundamental studies of material behavior across different length scales are emerging across the globe. Such programs will greatly benefit a platform to discuss the successes of various machine learning strategies, algorithms, and their applications to materials synthesis/design/characterization with leading experts in various material science and applied math disciplines. Broadly, this symposium is expected to provide an opportunity for academics, R&D scientists in industry, and students/postdocs to exchange ideas, think creatively about new avenues for developing and applying machine learning and data science techniques into development and implementation of new frontiers in various areas of materials science and technology. Details can be found in the link below:
